From martin at uni-mainz.de Wed Sep 3 13:50:17 2025 From: martin at uni-mainz.de (Christoph Martin) Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2025 14:50:17 +0200 Subject: [gpfsug-discuss] direct IO Message-ID: <56ef3253-346a-47dd-a716-3d922bdfec6e@uni-mainz.de> Hello list, recently, we got the question if we use direct IO in our Scale cluster, but we are not sure if we do or not. We have a three node cluster with shared storage available to all three nodes and running CES on all the nodes with SMB/NFS/S3 exports and no GPFS nodes attached. So the filesystem is only accessed via CES. The cluster has a AFM-DR connection to a secondary GPFS cluster on another site. I would assume from this setup that we don't use direct IO. The nodes are connected via Ethernet to the campus network and via Infiniband between the three nodes. How can we check, if we use direct IO? This Advisory, and specifically kernel-5.14.0-427.88.1.el9_4.src.rpm, should be avoided and not patched on Scale nodes until a version of Storage Scale is available with the fix. Figured I'd still send it as I never did find hard numbers. I’ve got a few questions that pop up from time to time and I’m curious if anyone here can help answer them: -how long does a cached encryption key last on a client? -is it possible on the SKLM or Scale side to tune this? -is it possible to clear the key without shutting down Spectrum Scale? will "tsctl encKeyCachePurge all" work? I have some ideas about the answer to the first one based on log messages when an SKLM server is down. We know that if say, several thousand clients are using Scale and the primary SKLM server goes down, it takes a little while for all the nodes to blacklist it the first time so there is a measurable lifetime. I just can't find it in the docs for either. Ed Wahl Ohio Supercomputer Center -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
